An Unexpected Week for an English Teacher
This is my third summer living in Prague, and since I’m currently in between jobs, I’ve had lots of opportunities to travel. Originally, I was going to write about my trip to Slovenia which I took with two of my good friends during the first week of July. I also thought about writing about my weekend in Berlin with my parents, or my current stay in England. I love writing about my first impressions of new countries, and I love England. But,... 5 Pieces of London in NYC
. . When I first went to London one of the first places I went to visit was Chinatown. I went for multiple reasons but one of the biggest ones was to find a little piece of home in my new temporary home. I was craving a red bean pastry and Chinese food I didn’t have the spices for. And when I moved to NYC–a city that I technically am familiar with–I searched for a bit of, well, London. I have found 5 places in NYC that remind me... Read More
A NYC Summer
It’s been over a month now and I still have so much to see! But so far, I’ve explored Prospect Park, Central Park and Taste of Times Square. So far food has been the name of the game. Parks are fantastic–especially if you organize a picnic with friends. And, well, as a Frisbee player, wide open grassy areas are prime locations for some relaxing fun. But make sure that you read up on the park’s policy for grilling or fires.... Read More
Lima
It was our first full day in Lima and already the city was treating us well. After an uneventful, 12 hour travel day, we landed in Lima late at night. The nicest cab driver was waiting for us with a little sign to take us to our hostel. He drove us, 30 minutes from the neighborhood Callao, into the city. We we arrived, our original hostel informed us that we would be staying at a ´friends´ hostel just down the street. Although the late... Read More
My Dream Come True
Pasta in Rome My dream come true would be to have the means to travel the world and explore the various worlds of food that are out there. Thus, combining two of my favorite things in the world. Food thrills and revives me, when done properly. My world revolves around food, beyond the simple need to consume it in order to live. Mixing flavors is fascinating and the biggest part of cooking for me. My friend recently had a drink that was made with both... Read More
Around the world in (not quite!) 80 dishes.
Beavertails are year-round! One of the most incredible parts about travelling is the opportunity to experience different cuisines and exotic flavours. Not only do you get to excite your taste buds, but it can give you a real insight to the country and history of the people in some cases. It also often introduces you to many a ‘delicacy’ which you might never even dream of eating. All you need is an adventurous spirit, open mind and, in some... Read More
Eight Pounds
Over our five days vacation to the sunny Florida coast, two couples consumed eight pounds of deep blue sea deliciousness including crab, shark, salmon, shrimp, and scallops that we largely cooked ourselves. In fact, aside from one decadent night out, that included hush puppies, crab legs and blackened scallops, we cooked all of our vacation dinners at home. As a vegetarian traveler, I often get tired of eating out every meal and the options are... Read More
Bringing Korean Food to a Kitchen Near You
It goes without saying that when traveling to a new country, we should all try to experience as much of the local cuisine as is possible. Most people are quite proud of the food they were raised with, and are happy to introduce foreigners to the unique smells, textures and flavors that their country has perfected. Korean food, a delicate combination of strong spices and hearty vegetables, is unlike anything I have ever had before. As a whole,... Read More
Megan’s Top Ten of 2010
As challenging as 2010 was, I experienced some amazing things as a Go Girl. I celebrated one year as a writer for this fantastic online magazine with our year anniversary awhile back and with it a year of remembering all of the amazing places I have been. 2010 has also seen some beautiful adventures for me, so I figured that honoring 20-and-10 with my own top ten list would be just the thing. And so, in no particular order: 10. India- ten days... Read More
Feast Full of Thanks
Happy Thanksgiving! Yes, I realize that it has been over a week. And yes, I realize that you might not celebrate Thanksgiving. But Thanksgiving is a holiday that should be celebrated no matter where or who you are because the holiday has become a celebration of everything positive and beautiful in life. This year as Thanksgiving rolled around, I was hit with a wave of loss. I wouldn’t have days off from classes this year. I wouldn’t be... Read More
