Back in Time
Let me take you back in time, to 2009 when I first experienced Africa. Since the sixth grade when I first heard about my high school’s Tanzania Exchange Program I knew that I had to go…I was four years too young and probably didn’t know exactly where Tanzania was but I had what some describe as a calling. I knew that not going to Tanzania was not an option- I needed to get there. For five and a half years I kept Tanzania in the back... Read More
A NYC Summer
It’s been over a month now and I still have so much to see! But so far, I’ve explored Prospect Park, Central Park and Taste of Times Square. So far food has been the name of the game. Parks are fantastic–especially if you organize a picnic with friends. And, well, as a Frisbee player, wide open grassy areas are prime locations for some relaxing fun. But make sure that you read up on the park’s policy for grilling or fires.... Read More
The African Heartbeat
Music is a huge part of my life. Ever since I was a little girl I would play tapes at home and walk around the room dancing and singing along. My mother always played a lot of Portuguese music, which is both lyrical and melodic, to acquaint me with the artistic cultural roots within me. Since then I’ve always loved playing music: my instrument is my voice, I absolutely love singing and could never see my life without it. It’s my means of complete... Read More
Breztels and Katrin
Maybe it’s recent beer talk amongst friends, or rehearsing the Brahms’ Requiem (complete with German pronunciation lessons), or maybe just a nostalgic desire to cuddle up with a dear friend, but I have been missing my sweet heart Katrin. She and I met in class while studying in Spain and we became good pals after a few nights out dancing. We eventually shared our love of running , when it was a totally unheard of pastime in Barcelona,... Read More
There Once was a GoGirl in Ireland
I tried to write a limerick for this post, but the truth is that rhyming is not my strongest field. Besides, limericks are supposed to be obscene by nature, and my trip to visit my good friend definitely could not be defined as obscene. Amanda was spending the semester abroad studying in Cork, so it was easy to fly out to see her while I was in Barcelona, especially on America’s favorite food holiday- Thanksgiving. It seemed like to perfect... Read More
More Zanzibari antics! :)
Another stunning day on Zanzibar island. It’s so hot today — about 36 degrees I think — and the sea is so warm it’s like getting in a bubble bath…not very cooling but still one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen! After cooking in the sun for a good few hours we decide to take cover at a local restaurant for lunch which makes their own pizza…..amazing! On our way up to Eric’s shop everyone wants to stop... My Australia in Review
Sydney from Milson's Point If you’ve ever hesitated about the long flight to Australia, don’t. The great land down under is worth every bit of the long journey and the memories I’ll never forget. After almost five months in Australia, having sneakily avoided winter, I’m settling back into London life. When I think about my most recent travel adventure, I suppose I was able to see quite a lot of Australia, but really, I didn’t see half... Read More
Singing Sisters and Soapy Clothes
When you enter into a family for the first time, you know that you won’t be treated like the rest of the family immediately, but will remain a guest in the house for quite some time. For me, I think that time has officially run out. When I returned from a week-long tour of the South, which my program calls the “Southern Excursion”, I could feel a shift in dynamics about not only how my family connected with me, but also how I connected... City Crush- Prague
By Megan We were in the middle of our ‘northern’ European trip, enjoying a white peony tea in a shop near Wenceslas Square when I knew- I was in love. It was as if I had fallen into an Audrey Tautou movie, except my hair was convinced on growing dreadlocks and looking quite wild. I braided my hair and opened my arms wide ready for an adventure. Our hostel was adorable (SIR TOBY’S; see my favorites at http://letsgogirl.wordpress.com/2009/11/18/a-go-girls-guide-to-hosteling/)...
